LEAF Liverpool Economic Activity Framework

Looking for employers in Wirral to join the Liverpool City Region Economic Activity Framework (LEAF) project

Helping people into work. Strengthening businesses. Shaping the future of the Liverpool City Region.

The Liverpool City Region faces a significant challenge: nearly one in four working-age adults are economically inactive, with even higher rates (34%) among people experiencing poor health, disability, or caring responsibilities. The Liverpool Economic Activity Framework (LEAF) Project is a two-year research collaboration funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and led by the University of Liverpool, working alongside Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and Liverpool John Moores University to better understand these barriers and identify practical solutions.

At its heart, LEAF is about understanding the root causes of economic inactivity, including poor health, disability, caring responsibilities, and skills-related challenges. By working together, employers can play a key role in creating a more inclusive labour market that benefits individuals, businesses, and communities alike

LEAF is an opportunity for employers across the Liverpool City Region to help shape the future workforce.

Why Employer Voices Matter

Employers are at the frontline of recruitment, retention, and workplace wellbeing. LEAF recognises that tackling economic inactivity cannot be achieved by researchers and policymakers alone. The project brings together employers, local communities, and

decision-makers to co-develop solutions that reflect real workplace challenges and opportunities.

By getting involved, employers can:

· Influence research that could inform future employment and skills policies.

· Share insights on recruitment challenges and workforce needs.

· Help develop practical approaches to supporting people with health conditions, disabilities, or caring responsibilities into sustainable employment.

· Build stronger links with universities, local authorities, and community organisations across the Liverpool City Region.

How to get involved

Liverpool LEAF offers a unique opportunity to ensure that employer perspectives are represented in research that could shape the future of work in our region. If your organisation is interested in developing a stronger, more inclusive workforce while contributing to meaningful change, now is the time to get involved.

If you would like to

· Take part in an interview with our research team to tell us about your needs, challenges and practices relating to employment processes to reduce economic inactivity

· Be part of a roundtable discussion to share your experiences, connect with other employers and explore practical approaches that benefit employers and communities across the city region
